Sportsbook DraftKings issued an apology Monday after it posted a betting promotion on its app that referenced the 22nd anniversary of 9/11.
The promotion, which was featured across the app as early as Sunday evening, encouraged users to bet on three New York teams to win their respective games on Monday, a type of bet known as a parlay. The promotion was titled “NEVER FORGET” and read, “Bet on these New York teams to win tonight on 9/11,” referring to the Mets, Yankees and Jets.
The promotion was pulled from the app sometime Monday morning after drawing criticism on social media, including one tweet directed at DraftKings CEO and Co-Founder Jason Robins.
